Financial Support with Driving Lessons

Financial Support with Driving Lessons Learning, Skills and Employment - 11:00 12/01/23

Information

To help working-age adults living in North Yorkshire to get into paid employment or to remain in paid employment, the council will provide a payment towards the cost of driving lessons with a professional driving instructor.  This applies to families arriving through the Homes for Ukraine Scheme

The payment for driving lessons is in most instances £300 for one adult in each family.  The exceptions are where there are adult aged children or other adults living within the same household who are not the partner of the other adult claiming the funding.  In those instances, an additional payment of £300 can be provided to a child aged 18 years and over and to other single adults living in the household who are intending to get into paid employment.

That adult will also need to have a sufficient understanding of English necessary to pass the practical driving test.  Consequently, proof of having passed the driving theory test will be required before the payment is made for driving lessons.  You will also need to use a professional driving instructor.

A request for this financial support can be made by contacting hfu@northyorks.gov.uk and providing evidence that the practical test has been taken and passed. The funds would be provided via the EML pre-paid card.
